“Gone Off With Angels” is the memoir of Mark H. Kelly’s son, Benjamin-Hayes Door-Kelly, who passed away at age nine after a two-year struggle against leukemia. The work is based on newspaper columns, magazine feature stories, and personal reflections written by Kelly throughout his son’s illness and two years after his passing in October 1999. Much of the story is based on Benjamin-Hayes’ communication with angels, a phenomena the young boy termed “Golden Love.” “Gone Off With The Angels” is also a story of a parent-child relationship expressed with a search for Jesus the day after Christmas, a chance encounter with a reindeer, and coming to the aid of Santa Claus when the jolly old elf is overcome with the reality of Benjamin-Hayes’ illness. A work of spiritual non-fiction, Kelly’s “Gone Off With The Angels” takes readers into the heart of grief and into a life of faithful observance of his son’s life.

I am one of many that had the great pleasure of not only working with Mark, but having many opportunities to experience the world that Benjamin-Hayes was a part of when his daddy brought him to work. It didn't have to be told, you just knew that he was a very special boy and to be in his presence just made you feel better. He was surrounded by Golden Love and he radiated that Golden Love to everyone around him. This book has helped me in my own life with the loss of my mother to the Black Queen. Mom passed away almost a year ago after only a few weeks from a lung cancer diagnosis. There is no comparison to loosing a child, but grief is grief and the pain is there.
Thank you Mark! I can't come close to knowing how hard, yet healing this written journey has been, and continues to be for you. May God continue to be a comfort and may the memories of your sweet boy light your hearts path to healing ~~ yvonne

Gone Off with the Angels Christmas Stories of Golden Love edition by Mark H Kelly Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
This is a beautifully written book! Mark Kelly shares the true, emotional story about Benjamin-Hayes Kelly... a precious, funny, very special and incredibly brave little boy. The book is both funny and then breaks your heart... as is life.
As a mother that has lost a son, it is truly your worst nightmare. I admire Mark Kelly for his talent and ability to share Benjamin-Hayes life and the special relationship he shared with his precious son.
The book will definitely touch your heart, make you cry, laugh, and remind you of how fragile life is and we must embrace every moment of every day.
This book was a Christmas gift from my girl friend whose grandchild had recently been diagnosed with a severe form of Muscular Dystrophy. Filled with love, laughter and heartbreak Mark Kelly celebrates the life of his young child while examining the unthinkable tragedy of his death. Gone Off With The Angels is written with such craft as to allow the reader to broach difficult subjects softened through the eyes of a child. Its about life and living and those left behind. At times it will make you laugh out loud and later it will provoke you to ponder life's deeper questions. I personally found it to be an amazing read and highly recommend it to anyone, but especially to those who want to celebrate life, who appreciate humor and to those that appreciate some tugging at their heart strings!
Mark Kelly has written an incredible tribute to his son, Benjamin-Hayes Kelly. Mark's willingness to share his funny, heart-breaking, and intimate moments with Benjamin-Hayes grants us a glimpse of a beautiful little boy who has an amazing ability to reduce life's moments to the lowest common denominator. It is a clear, honest, succinct, and thoughtful exploration and explanation of the mysteries of life and death, of this world and acceptance of life in the world beyond. Benjamin-Hayes' beautiful and mystical travels on this earth were witnessed by his father who selflessly shares Benjamin-Hayes with us. Benjamin-Hayes' travails were watched over and eased by a Golden Angel, his family, and his incredible "understanding" of spirituality. Mark Kelly gives us a gift in Gone Off with the Angels that may help us define life's mysteries, and may lead us to find our own mystical spirituality.
If you believe in Angels and God, you should read this book. If you don't believe, you should definitely read this book. Written by his father, this is the story of young Benjamin-Hayes, a very special boy who had such an amazing and innocent faith in God and Angels. It is honest, sad, funny, heartbreaking, beautiful and uplifting. Gone Off with the Angels tells the story of a very special boy told by his dad. Benjamin-Hays touched many lives and continues to do so through Gone Off with the Angels.
Emotion overwhelms the ability to speak. Words can fail. Mark Kelly recalls his late nine-year-old son through fascinating narrative sometimes helplessly derailed, unorganized, raw. Uproariously funny, then heartbreaking but always celebratory--everything arrives mixed together in this memoir, just like life. The author gets out of his own way and allows his true story to tell itself, almost as if Benjamin-Hayes Kelly is again living out his days in real time. A palpable child, he's frequently funny, intensely mystical, always brave, but never less than himself. He loves Star Wars, Disney World, rollicking jokes, his family, but also the mysterious golden angel only he can see after a diagnosis of cancer.
In looking back, Mark Kelly rejects easy sentimentality and prefers facts so strange--some of them foreign to conventional "spiritual" literature--they ring uncommonly true. Little Benjamin-Hayes routinely sees the unseen, a normal and everyday occurrence for him. As cancer closes in for the kill, his father's accounts begin to read like letters penned in hell, yet leavened by a growing sense of some ineffable Heaven as his son's literal destination. Benjamin-Hayes approaches it with the innocent faith of a visionary, but Mark Kelly can only watch and pray. And grieve. His narration, helplessly unedited, becomes unspeakably moving in its simple attempt to grab hold of what can't ever be grasped, not on this side of the grave.
Wise enough not to try to force on his readers too many overly-familiar Christian answers, privileged rather to merely ask the big questions, Kelly revisits his son's life and death on his knees. But in awe. In gratitude. In joy. And somehow convinces us of the possibility of a Love so eternal, mysterious and sublime, that it must be capitalized.
Just finished reading this heart breaking and victorious book. It was an inspiration to accept what I don't understand and look for meaning in it. Benjamin-Hayes was a gift from God for all that knew him and for the rest of us through his fathers writing.
